FROM MICROSOFT CORPORATION

SharePoint spaces is a web-based, immersive platform which allows your users to create and share mixed reality experiences.

We are gradually rolling out SharePoint spaces (Preview) to Targeted Release customers in April 2020. We will update this post when we start the rollout for standard release customers.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 62752.How does this affect me?

Building a space is a lot like building a modern site.

First, a user creates the space and chooses options such as structure, background, and theme. Next, add web parts for 3D objects, 360° images and videos, and 2D images and text. The resulting immersive 3D experience can be viewed in a web browser or with a mixed reality headset.

Site owners must enable Spaces (Preview) on the Manage site features page for users to be able to create immersive, 3-D experiences.

Once enabled, users will see a new option in the site’s New menu to create a SharePoint Space.

What do I need to do to prepare for this change?

Once this is available in your tenant, you might want to notify SharePoint site owners and users who have access to 3D models and 360-degree images or videos that this new functionality is available.

This feature is enabled for the tenant but off by default. Any site owner can turn it on from the Manage site features page of their site. Review the documentation on how to use Spaces.
