Major update: AnnouncementApplies To: null

Based on feedback from the rollout of the Common Data Service service plan, MC209158 or MC211030 (April ’20), a new service plan, Project for Office, will be rolled out to allow you to control the visibility of the Microsoft Project tile in the Microsoft 365 app launcher. Additionally, if you have a Project Plan 1, Project Plan 3, or Project Plan 5 subscription, the Project for Office service plan will allow Microsoft 365/Office 365 users to view project roadmaps built in Roadmap.

If your tenant does not have a Project license, this new service plan will not apply to you. If you don’t want the Project icon to appear in the Microsoft 365 app launcher, then you can hide it by following the directions in the article, Remove Project from the Office 365 App Launcher.

Key Points:

  • Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID: 60646
  • Timeline: Starting late July and complete by end of August.
  • Roll-Out: Tenant level
  • Control type: License management, PowerShell

How this will affect your organization

If you have a Project subscription associated with the subscriptions listed here, then you will see the new service plan within the Microsoft 365 Admin center. Depending on which subscription you have, the corresponding service plan will roll out:

Subscription Project Number Service Plan
Office 365 Kiosk family PROJECT_O365_F3 Project for Office (Plan F3)
Microsoft 365/Office 365 E1/A1 family PROJECT_O365_P1 Project for Office (Plan E1)
Microsoft 365/Office 365 E3/A3 family PROJECT_O365_P2 Project for Office (Plan E3)
Microsoft 365/Office 365 E5/A5 family PROJECT_O365_P3 Project for Office (Plan E5)

What you need to do to prepare

Once this update is complete, you will see a new service plan, Project for Office, in the list of plans included with your subscription.

Please review the article, Remove Project from the Office 365 App Launcher, as referenced above, to find out how you can hide the Project tile.

The service plan will not impact your existing Office 365 subscription.

You may consider updating your training and documentation for Project.
