From Microsoft Corporation

We are making it possible to automatically apply sensitivity labels to content stored on OneDrive and SharePoint and to emails sent through Exchange. This advanced capability requires Microsoft 365 E5 licensing SKUs (covered below).

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 57312.

When this will happen

We have begun rolling out to general availability, and the rollout will be complete by the end of May.How this will affect your organization

Sensitivity labels from the Microsoft Information Protection framework let you automatically classify and protect content based on policy rules that administrators configure.

Automatic classification differs from manual labeling because the system applies the label based on your pre-defined policy rules. It is possible to use the same labels for both manual and automatic classification.

When this is available in your tenant, you can create automatic policy rules to classify Excel, PowerPoint, and Word files stored at rest in OneDrive and SharePoint, as well as emails in transit in Exchange. What you need to do to prepare

Your organization must have enabled sensitivity labels.
