Informed network routing provides a bi-directional data sharing channel between Microsoft and your Software Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) solution and will soon enter public preview. Optimized SD-WAN connectivity may result in improved user experience and performance.
If you are not using, or planning to use, a SD-WAN solution, you can safely ignore this message.
This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 70549.
When this will happen
- Informed network routing will enter preview on the first week in January 2021.
- We expect to reach general availability later in 2021 and will communicate again then.
How this will affect your organization
Once this feature enters preview, it will be available for customers to evaluate and provide feedback along with the integrated third-party network solutions listed in the feature documentation.
For every office location and Internet circuit that you configure, Microsoft periodically shares feedback with the SD-WAN solution on the quality of selected Microsoft 365 application experiences for network traffic associated with each specific Internet circuit. Using this feedback, the SD-WAN solution may then take smart recovery actions by routing Microsoft 365 application traffic through alternate available links.
What you need to do to prepare
By default, the feature is disabled and tenant administrators must opt-in.
If you are interested in evaluating this feature, check the feature documentation to determine if your SD-WAN solution has been integrated with the feature, and consult your SD-WAN solution documentation for further detail on how to use Microsoft 365 informed network routing.
