Microsoft Teams: Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows store application 4.14 update

Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365 Experts

From Microsoft Corporation
Technical Bulletin MC420056 · Published Aug 26, 2022

Message Summary

Teams Rooms on Windows application version 4.14 includes key new features and improvements to existing functionality as follows:

  • Front row experience update
  • Pin and hide the room video
  • Turn off split gallery with XML setting
  • 18 videos support for dual display Teams rooms

This change is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID: 95258

When this will happen:

Microsoft Teams Rooms application version 4.14 with these changes will start to roll out on September 2, 2022, and complete rollout in 2 weeks. The application updates are delivered through Windows store and Teams service. The application and Teams service components are installed automatically within this 2-week timeframe.

This is rolling out on Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows only.

How this will affect your organization:

Front row experience update

Front row will now have the larger content size with smaller video height, shorter top bar, and one panel by default on Front of Room display narrower than 21:9. Its default video heights will be configurable via XML between small, medium (default), and large. The previous video height is similar to the large option.

  1. Single display mode
    • Front of Room displays narrower than 21:9
      • The default number of panels on Front of Room displays narrower than 21:9 will be one. The default gallery height became smaller to maximize the content size. The right panel will be open with chat by default, and you will see the raised hand notification when there is a new raised hand.
    • Front of Room displays with 21:9 or wider aspect ratio
      • The default number of panels on Front of Room displays with 21:9 or wider aspect ratio will be two as before. The default gallery height became smaller to maximize the content size.
  2. Dual display mode
    • The default number of panels on dual Front of Room displays will be two as before. The default gallery height became smaller to maximize the content size.
  3. Configurable Small/ Medium/ Large video height
    • The default height is Medium, and you can change the default using XML.
      • <FrontRowVideoSize>small</FrontRowVideoSize>
      • <FrontRowVideoSize>medium</FrontRowVideoSize>
      • <FrontRowVideoSize>large</FrontRowVideoSize>

Pin and hide the room video

  • Room users can pin or hide room video on the front of room screen. In-room participants can control these options by selecting the room from the roster on the console. This added capability provides greater personalization for room users who feel the room video to be potentially distracting or not needed.

Turn off split gallery with XML setting

  • To avoid splitting the video gallery across multiple screens, when content isn’t being shared, IT admin can set to turn it off via XML.
    • <SplitVideoLayoutsDisabled>true</SplitVideoLayoutsDisabled>

18 videos support for dual display Teams rooms

  • Teams rooms with dual front of room displays can now show up to 18 video participants (3×3 on each screen) when there is no content shared in the meeting. This is an increase in the number of incoming videos from 10 to 18 and allows in-room users to have immersive video conferencing experience for meetings with more video participants. Room users can pin or spotlight up to 9 video participants on one screen while viewing the others on the 2nd screen when there is no content in the meeting.
  • If your meeting has more than 18 video participants, the existing Together mode and large gallery layouts will continue to work and support up to 50 video participants.

What you need to do to prepare:

You might want to notify your users about this updated experience and update your training and documentation as appropriate.
