Meeting categories in Outlook allow users to easily tag, label, and group calendar events. Meeting category insights is a new feature coming in the Viva Insights app in Teams that will help users understand how they are allocating their time across these meeting categories. Users can view data for the last 3 months, the last 4 weeks, and the next 4 weeks. The feature will be available in an Effective meetings tab being introduced in the app.
With future updates, users will see more personalized insights and suggestions in this tab to help improve meeting habits and will be able to create and share meeting plans to set team meeting norms.

When will this happen:
Rollout will begin in mid-August and is expected to be completed by the late August.
How will this affect your organization:
Users with a Viva insights subscription will be able to see their total meeting time over the selected time period, their time spent in selected categories, and their distribution of time spent in each meeting category. Users who have not categorized any meetings between the last 3 months and next 4 weeks will not receive these insights, but will have access to them once they categorize any meetings in this time period.
Users without a Viva Insights subscription will not be able to view meeting category insights.
What do you need to do to prepare:
Review and assess the impact for your organization. Consider updating documentation as appropriate. To categorize meetings in Outlook to access these insights, see the following: Assign a color category to a calendar appointment
