Outlook for Android will roll out Play My Emails near the end of June to customers in the United States. Play My Emails lets you catch up with new email in your focused inbox.
This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 58736.
When this will happen
- We will begin gradually rolling this out to United States customers in late June.
- We expect the roll out to to be complete in mid-July.
How this affects your organization
Play My Emails is a new user experience that uses intelligent and neural voice technologies via Cortana to read your emails and changes to your day.
Once they receive the app update with this feature, end users will see a message at the bottom of the inbox screen. Tapping the message launches the on-boarding process.
Users will start Play My Emails by tapping the play button at the bottom of the inbox or in the menu sidebar. Cortana will then intelligently read emails using the Android device speaker or a separate Bluetooth or audio device such as a headset.
Play My Emails is available on one account at a time including Office 365, Outlook.com and Gmail accounts. Outlook for Android will support the original set of capabilities that launched with Play My Emails in Outlook for iOS. However, it will not include the scheduling and task creation capabilities recently released in Play My Emails in Outlook for iOS. These will come in a future release.
End users can opt in or out of Play My Emails by following these steps:
- Open Outlook for Android
- Go to Settings
- Select Play My Emails
- Turn on/off the toggle to enable/disable account(s)
Play My Emails uses Cortana in Microsoft 365 to safely and securely process and reason over your email and calendar information.
Play My Emails requires an active network connection to the internet.
What you need to do to prepare for this change?
If you do not want your Outlook for Android users to see the initial Play My Emails banner, use Microsoft Intune app configuration to disable the initial offer. Users will still be able to turn on Play My Emails in Settings as described above.
Note: Play My Emails is the first Cortana-related capability where Cortana has met specific requirements set out in the O365 section of the Microsoft Trust Center and the Online Service Terms (OST). This means it is an integral part of the Office 365 experience and is protected and secured subject to the OST. Your organization’s employees can opt out of Play My Emails by following the steps above. Other Cortana features (i.e., Cortana optional connected services) may be subject to the Microsoft Services Agreement and Microsoft Privacy Statement.
