Request/Release workflow for quarantined messages

From Microsoft Corporation

C215581, Stay Informed, Published date: Jun 8, 2020

With this new quarantine policy, tenant admins will be able to configure end user access to messages quarantined by the Exchange Online Protection (EOP) anti-spam policy. End users will also now have a process to request message release.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap IDs 62449 and 62450

When this will happen

  • We will be gradually rolling this out to standard release customers in mid-July 2020. We expect the rollout to be complete the end of July.
  • We will be gradually rolling this out to government clouds beginning at the end of July, and we expect to be complete in mid-August.

How this will affect your organization

The EOP anti-spam policy filters into five categories: Spam, High confidence spam, Bulk email, Phishing email and High confidence phishing email.

Before this new policy, admins were unable to alter end user access for messages quarantined by the default anti-spam policy.

Before this new end user workflow, end users who had access to preview a quarantined message had no direct way to request that the message be released. Instead, they had to manually ask an admin to release messages. What you need to do to prepare

Once the changes are rolled out, you will be able to customize the default settings for the anti-spam policy. This does not affect any customized anti-spam policy settings.

If you want to modify the current default end user access to the anti-spam policy categories, you can do so once the feature is available in your tenant.

Your end users will also have a standard work flow to request that a message be released from quarantine.
